Daniel Smith, Nosipho Vezi and Faye Tunnicliffe headline WPCA Season Awards

NEWLANDS – Western Province Cricket Association (WPCA) celebrated the outstanding performances and achievements of its professional players at the 2025/26 WPCA Season Awards, held at Rondebosch Golf Club on Monday evening.

Leading the honours was the men’s team captain Daniel Smith, who enjoyed an exceptional season with the Western Province Men, claiming three major awards. Smith was named WP Men’s Player of the Year, WP 4-Day Player of the Year and WP Players’ Player of the Year, underlining his consistency, impact and contribution throughout the campaign.

Smith’s achievements were among the standout moments on a night that recognised excellence across the men’s and women’s programmes.

The Western Province Women capped a historic campaign by claiming both the Pro20 title for a third consecutive year and the Pro50 title, with several players recognised for their contributions.

Nosipho Vezi and Faye Tunnicliffe led the women’s honours after playing pivotal roles in the team’s double-winning season. Vezi was named WP Women’s Players’ Player of the Year and WP Women’s One-Day Cup Player of the Year, while Tunnicliffe claimed the WP Women’s Player of the Year and WP Women’s T20 Player of the Year awards.

Kayla Reyneke and Miya Lalor shared the WP Women’s Young Player of the Year award, highlighting the exciting emerging talent within the squad.

Other men’s award winners included, Kyle Verreynne (50-Over Player of the Year), Josh Breed (T20 Player of the Year) and Mbulelo Dube (Young Player of the Year).

WPCA CEO Corrie van Zyl congratulated all the winners and nominees:

“The WPCA Season Awards celebrate not only individual excellence but also the collective spirit that drives Western Province cricket forward. We are proud of Daniel, Nosipho, Faye, and all our winners whose performances embody the passion and commitment that make this province a powerhouse of the game.”
